JOB TITLE: Camp Counselor – Before and/or After school and/or Summer Camp
GENERAL FUNCTION:
- Provide leadership and guidance for one or more specific activity areas.
- Provide growth and development opportunities for each camper.
- Development and operation of all aspects of program schedule.
- Provide opportunities for development of awareness in each camper.
- Provide an enjoyable experience for each camper.
- Set a good example in promptness, manners, language, health, and appearance (uniform required).
- Set a good example in respect and care for the woods and out-of-doors.
- Ability to work with children of all abilities.
- Willing to work with children who have disabilities and provide for their needs.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- At least 18 years of age and/or one year of college education.
- Experience or training significant evidence of emotional maturity, good moral character, judgment, integrity and leadership capability.
- Interest in children.
- Enjoyment and appreciation of the out-of-doors.
- Ability to adapt to changing needs and circumstances.
- Current infant/child CPR certification and First Aid.
- Ability to create and work within a Christian environment so that each camper has the opportunity for spiritual growth.
- To further the Mission and Values of the YMCA (Mission: To put Christian principles into practice which build healthy mind, body, and spirit. Values: Caring, Honesty, Respect, and Responsibility.)
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
Walking, Squatting, Climbing, Hearing, Standing, Pushing (50 lbs.), Lifting (50 lbs.), Sitting, Pulling (50 lbs.), Speech, Vision.
PRINCIPLE ACTIVITIES:
- Plan, supervise and implement designed activities to include indoor/outdoor games such as: arts-n-crafts, sports, large group activities, small group activities, team building, etc..
- Supervise and ensure the safety of campers during the morning and afternoon before and after the program hours. At the Director’s request on the first day of each session and certain other days as the director see fit, one may have to arrive early or stay at camp later than the actual program hours.
- Assist in planning and implementing all opening and closing assemblies.
- Maintain inventory of supplies.
- Attend pre-camp staff training and orientation.
- Assist in the planning of the daily program segments, special camp programs, and opening assembly.
- Build and maintain morale in all groups.
- Prepare and present morning devotion as scheduled.
- Attend all staff meetings as scheduled.
- Assist in planning and participate in Family Night entertainment programs.
- Share problems with the Camp Director so they can be solved.
- Facilitate proper group behavior in all activities including field trips.
- Assist in providing a positive learning experience for C.I.T.’s assigned to your area.
- Manage appropriate behavior with all children and implement the Camp’s discipline policy when necessary.
- Ensure the cleanliness of camp areas, during each activity period throughout the day.
- Participate in activities with all children, including disabled children, giving assistance when necessary to ensure the camper’s success.
JOB TITLE: Lifeguard
GENERAL FUNCTION:
- Implement the Aquatics standard operating procedures
- Operate within YMCA personnel policies
- Ensure Safety to all persons using the Aquatics Facility
- Must be able to work under pressure
- Have a high level of attention to detail along with effective planning, prioritizing, and organization skills
- Maintain good work relations with others
- Must handle all Emergency situations according to YMCA Policy and with confidentiality
- Utilize time and resources effectively and efficiently
- Demonstrate good judgment in making decisions, setting priorities, and solving problems
- Practice courtesy at all times, and promote harmony within the YMCA
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Must be 15 years of age
- YMCA or American Red Cross Lifeguard Training
- YMCA or American Red Cross First Aid Training
- YMCA or American Red Cross CPR for the Professional Rescuer
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
Must maintain a level of physical fitness that allows for a 300 yd swim under 10 min., Retrieve a 10lb brick from the bottom of the pool and swim 25yds holding the brick with both hands on your chest. Must be able to sit for extended periods of time and remain alert. Must be able to recognize and respond to emergencies with professionalism.
PRINCIPLE ACTIVITIES:
- Conduct Safety drills and physical conditioning tests
- Provide program and membership information to members and visitors
- Maintain the appearance of all pools, locker rooms, and the Natatorium in General
- Promote character training ( Caring, Respect, Honesty, and Responsibility)
- Maintain and promote the standards of the YMCA Mission; To put Christian Principles into practice through programs that build Spirit, Mind, and Body for all.
Job Title: Caregiver/Teacher -- Part-time positions at YMCA Preschool Child Care Center in Ocean Springs
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Applicants should be patient and loving, energetic and enthusiastic.
- Must be comfortable with and committed to young children
- A sense of humor is a must!
- Experience preferred.
DESCRIPTION:
30 – 35 hours per week, Monday – Friday. Must be able to work flexible hours if needed, and willing to work with all ages (Toddlers and Preschoolers) on an as needed basis.
