YMCA Volunteer Opportunities:

Volunteer:
At the Mississippi Gulf Coast YMCA, your time and talent go a long way. YMCAs are first and foremost volunteer organizations. All YMCAs are volunteer-founded, volunteer-based, and volunteer-led.
As a YMCA volunteer, you can lead an exercise class, read to a preschool class, coach a youth sports team, cook for a bake sale, design a program brochure, greet people at the front desk, find items for an auction, help out in the office or at a special event.
In the Mississippi Gulf Coast YMCA, we have five categories of volunteers:

  1. Program volunteers help lead programs or assist in delivering programs (e.g., a program instructor, youth sports coach).
  2. Support volunteers serve in the office, at the front desk, in the locker room or on the grounds.
  3. Fundraising volunteers raise money by working in annual, sustaining, capital or other special campaigns; working on endowment development; or by working at or running special events.
  4. Policy volunteers serve on the Y's board of directors, on a committee or task force.
  5. Managerial volunteers help manage and administer YMCA operations and programs (e.g., a pro-bono accountant or PR specialist).

To get more information about becoming a YMCA volunteer, contact Catarina Johnson, Associate Executive Director, at 228.875.5050, x13.

Every Person. Every Contribution. Each One Matters:

Donate:
The Mississippi Gulf Coast embraces people of all ages, incomes, abilities, religions and ethnic backgrounds; we're here for everyone. Each year, the Mississippi Gulf Coast YMCA serves more than 7,800 people, including 4,500 children, through a broad range of programs at 18 program sites in Jackson, Harrison, Hancock, George, and Greene counties. In 2008, we provided over $125,000.00 in program and membership financial assistance to families across the Gulf Coast.
Individual, corporate, and foundation donations allow us: to offer financial assistance to individuals and families who cannot otherwise afford to join the local YMCA; to give scholarships to youth at our day camps, summer camps and preschool; and to provide a broad array of social services and leadership development programs to children, youth, adults, seniors, and families.
The Mississippi Gulf Coast YMCA is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization. To get more information about donating, contact Dan Hecker, President and CEO, at 228.875.5050, x15, or visit our website at www.msgulfcoast-ymca.org.
YEARLY FUNDRAISING OPPORTUNITIES:
In 2010, we hope you will strongly consider participating in one or more of the following YMCA events and programs:

    • Strong Kids Campaign (March) – The YMCA’s annual fundraising campaign. Contributions to this program allow the YMCA to honor our commitment to the community to “never turn a child or family away from participation in Y programs and services because of an inability to pay.”
    • Strong Kids Charity Golf Tournament (May) – Held each year at the beautiful Preserve Golf Course in Vancleave. Giving opportunities include Hole and Tournament Sponsorships, as well as team entries. All proceeds benefit the YMCA Strong Kids Campaign.
    • Humanitarian Award Banquet (October) – The YMCA’s annual recognition gala honoring a long-time community leader for their service to the Gulf Coast. Event Sponsorships ($1,000 / $2,500) and Table Sponsorships ($1,000) benefit the YMCA Strong Kids Campaign.
